Shoreangler wrote: This cable car rig U can either use it with a float or without. There is advantage n disadvantage.
If use with float,
Advantage is when U are fishing along the side of the jetty along with a good current flow, the float will prevent the live bait fish from swept downward by the strong current.
Disadvantage is if the sea is choppy, the float may cause a weak hookup due to it floating up n down with the choppy sea. I have witness many of this weak hookup.
Without float, Advantage it will have a firmer hookup as the tension on the main line n the rig is strong.
Disadvantage is if the current is too strong, the live bait could be swept down to the bottom of the sinker.
As for two hook on the rig, one is the sliding hook. A two hook rig will help a more secure hookup as we know especially queenfish will jump up n try to throw out the hook. With another hook it work as another anchor point.
SA is i use a 2 hook cable car rig do i need to use the sliding hook to hook on the live bait too?and what hook will i need to use?long snood or short snood?

Yup, both hook have to hook on the bait fish. I normally hook about 1cm apart. First will be the front hook follow by the slide hook. Use short shank live bait hook or beak hook. Long shank hook is out for this type of fishing.
Why we need two hook: Reason is most surface predator will do a acrobatic jump when hook. So with the extra anchor point it will not so easy to dislodge n get away free.

I am quite a newbie when i fisrt started at bjt. I don't even know how they manage to catch those fishes like queenie and tenggiri and so on... Until one cloudy afternoon, an auntie whom i got acquainted, taught me the method which you had mention. Either using a float or without and the leader distance is also an important factor. The only thing which i didn't follow was the live bait used by her. I use dead bait and hook it up like shoreangler taught using 3 hooks except my last hook is treble. Within an hr after cast and try, i caught my first tenggiri about almost a kilo weight. Another half hr, a good size todak took my bait as well. The lucky part was that treble hook really helps. Both the fish was caught by the treble hook. I really salute that aunty

Shoreangler wrote: Ah Yang wrote: so after casting out the sinker, n sliding the bait down into the water, does this make the bait close to the jetty? or will it be washed out by the current? all ur hook-ups quite close to jetty? Yes... all this predator are very close to the jetty chasing the tamban. If U cast too far out...U will notice no bite at all. sorry, maybe an old thread, but interesting. as I have been to bjt quite frequently, that's what i noticed too. in that case, is there really a need for a 10ft - 12ft rod? what's the point of casting further out at the end of the jetty? is it to target the stingray and cobias? also, queenfishes may be pelagic, but they do dive down for prey sometimes. I ever got them on paternoster. its kind weird though. haha. I hope SA is still around man. my idol.
